Our Escapist Weekend

A few weekends ago, the weather forecast showed temperatures in excess of 100 in San Jose both Saturday and Sunday, so we got out of Dodge and had two days of family adventure:

Saturday in Santa Cruz @ Harvey West Park
imageJohn John is proud of his walking stick.

imageThere was as event being set up for a Boys and Girls club, which meant we eventually left amid the booming bass of a sound system manned by a millenial (as indicated by musical selection and order), but while the morning was still cool-ish, and quiet, John John had fun with this enormous beach ball, the likes of which he’d never seen.

Sunday in Mill Valley
imageThrowing rocks in to streams with friends.  John John later tried to scale that rock.

imageThis photo was followed by naked romping in the water. A good way to cool off!

Another John John Installation

One of my favorite things is walking into a room and discovering the remains of some exploration and play that John John has left. This one was intricate. Notice the placement of the camels under the plastic lid as a detail.  #lovemylittleinstallationartistimage

It was good to get back in the studio. The show was good. Tighter transitions. I played lots of international music this week.

Hour 1: Starts at 1:57 so you get a few minutes of Goodwrench. African drums, Japanese psych, piano pieces for children.

Hour 2: Slow Satie, Peru, drumming, organ, oranges.

Hour 3: Sun Ra, Ives, Hindemuth.

Hour 4: Ambient leading in to Sal 9000.

I Am Someone To Love

    I am the writer
    But I am but alone
    When I’m on this microphone
I hear singing from the catacombs

Someday you’ll come to find me
Look for me and I’ll be gone
    Don’t look no further on
I’m right here in the song

If this music makes you feel like I feel
    That’s what is real
    That’s all that’s real

I am (sing it with me)
    I am someone to love
(Sing it) I am someone to love

    Keep on knocking
    But you can’t come in
    Don’t tell my Mama
What kind of shape I’m in

    Take it on the chin
    Every now and again
    Dust myself off
    And check back in

    I know I got problems
Some of y’all got problems too
    I know it’s true

    This life is beautiful
    Ain’t nothin anyone could do
To take that away from you

    I am
    I am someone to love
    I am someone to love
