Record Reviews

Black Uhuru – “Positive Dub” – [Ras Records]
8 digital dubs from Black Uhuru feat. Sly and Robbie, released 1987 on RAS Records. Cool tubular 80s sound. Stimulating, distinctive, inviting– rewarding upon repeat listens, makes a good discussion at the dinner party. 80s dancehall dubs in the best way. Go ahead, impress the guests.
Guedra Guedra – “Son of Sun” – [On The Corner Records]
North-African electronic bass sound on the debut release from from Moroccan producer Guedra Guedra (we have the follow-up). Sub-bass weighted blanket, laid out on a bed of gnawa, Moroccan guedra drums and Sufi vocals. 4 side-long montages from a 1976 broadcast celebrating the 50th anniversary of NBC. Deep dive into the 20th century. Some who listen may remember. TV, radio, and print. Primo Captain Jack sound, sure to find a comfy spot in various sets. Dig in, superimpose your thing onto it.Bob hope, Korean war, Kkk – MLK, Castro, […]
Abyssinians – “Satta Dub” – [Patate Records]
14 dub sides from 1976’s “Satta Massa Gana,” (we have on CD) the Abyssinian’s debut record, which some rate their best. Long shelved, only seeing release in 1998 after Donald Manning convinced Clive Hunt to part with the masters. Rrecorded at Harry J’s and Joe Gibbs’ studios in Jamaica with an all star cast incl […]

Smoky 60s jazz & bossa. “The Moment of Truth” (Il momento della verità in Italian) is a 1965 film directed by Francesco Rosi, a neo-realist picture presented in a documentary style, focusing on bullfighting in Spain during the 1960s with graphic animal suffering.
