Dogs and Birds

In the yard.  January in California.

The dog barked.  “Doh!” he said, excited.  He pointed in the direction of the barking.  “Ruff, ruff, ruff,” he barked to himself.  He was happy.

Birds chirped.  “Ba!  Ba!” he said, turning and pointing to the tree with the birds in it.

  1. Yesterday, as he was being put in his highchair for dinner, John John pointed toward the kitchen counter and started saying “Bapp! Bapp!” with real urgency, and began furiously signing ‘please.’ Clearly he wanted something – badly! Lately he’s been asking for “App app appa” which means apple but this one was different, definitely started with a consonant. The urgency continued, “Bapp!! Bapp!!” please, please – I looked at the counter top, looking for a B food. No bread on view (and that’s ‘baa’ anyway), I hold up a banana – nope. Tangerine? Kiwi? Then I see it – the bowl of grapes. “Bapp!” he said with satisfaction. So I promised some at the end of dinner. John John was satisfied.
